What is personal branding photography?

Gone are the days where you can simply hang out a sign and build a business.  Today’s businesses require an online presence with images that truly reflect you and your brand.  Branding photography includes custom imagery that shows your personality and helps market your business.

Benefits of branding photography

1) Market & grow your business

Engaging images elevate your brand, authority, and business.  A headshot gives a first impression, but a collection of professional images used across your website, social media platforms, and marketing collateral builds trust with your clients by sharing the full story of what it’s like to work with you.

2) Communicate a consistent message

Using generic stock photography may convey a mishmash of styles.  By using custom photography, you can ensure your images have a consistent look and feel and are true to your brand’s aesthetic.

3) Let people know the real you

Customers do business with people they know, like, and trust.  By sharing your behind the scenes and giving potential clients a peek into your business and life, you build connection.  Branding images let people know the real you and show off your personality.

4) Set yourself apart from the competition

Think about two similar businesses – a donut shop perhaps.  Donut Shop A doesn’t have a website, and posts stock images of donuts on their Facebook page.  Donut Shop B uses a collection of images on their website, Facebook, and Instagram – these images show the actual shop, behind the scenes of making the donuts, and faces of the owner and employees.  Which donut shop would you be more interested in visiting?

Who is branding photography for?

Branding photography is for solopreneurs, large corporations, and every business in between! If you do business with people, then branding photography will help you attract the right customers, partners, and employees.

Where to use your branding photography

A branding photoshoot results in a large variety of images, which you can use in the following places:  website, social media, profile/bio pictures, brochures, business cards, online & print advertising, product packaging, artwork displays, billboards, car wraps, book covers, training materials, etc…

When to invest in branding photography

A handful of headshots will likely be sufficient for brand new businesses.  Once your business is off the ground, then it’s a good idea to invest in personal brand photography to create a library of fresh new images.  Most clients schedule branding photoshoots to coincide with a major website update or campaign launch, or on a routine basis (every 3-6 months) for social media needs. One session can supply 3-12 months worth of content, depending how frequently you update your website, blog, and social media.
